Frequently Asked Questions

General
What is CRV?
CRV stands for California Redemption Value. It's a deposit paid by consumers when purchasing eligible beverage containers in California. You get this deposit back when you recycle those containers at an authorized center like ours.
What containers are eligible?
We accept aluminum cans, glass bottles, and plastic bottles and containers that display the CRV symbol or are part of California's beverage container recycling program. Containers must be empty and intact.
Do I need to sort my recyclables?
Sorting is not required, but it can make your visit faster. You can bring mixed containers, and we'll handle the sorting. However, separating aluminum, glass, and plastic is always appreciated.
Process
How does the redemption process work?
It's simple: 1) Collect your eligible CRV containers. 2) Bring them to our San Diego center during business hours. 3) We count and weigh your materials. 4) You receive your CRV refund in cash on the spot.
Is there a minimum or maximum amount I can bring?
No minimum! We accept any quantity, from a single bag to a truckload. There are no maximum limits for individual recyclers at our local San Diego center.
Do I need to bring identification?
No ID is required for standard CRV redemption at our center. We welcome all San Diego residents and businesses without paperwork or registration.
Rates & Payment
How much do I get paid?
CRV rates are set by the State of California and vary by container type and size. Current rates are typically 5¢ for containers under 24 ounces and 10¢ for containers 24 ounces or larger. Call us for the most up-to-date rates.
How are CRV refunds calculated?
Refunds are calculated per container based on California's established CRV rates. We count or weigh your materials and apply the current per-container rate to determine your total refund amount.
What payment methods do you offer?
We pay CRV refunds in cash at our San Diego location. For larger amounts or business accounts, alternative arrangements can be discussed. We do not offer check or electronic payment for standard redemptions.
